Vata

AIR & ETHER

Vata is made up of air and ether and it rules all motion in the body.

From the flow of blood in your veins to your respiration rate to your natural pace, you probably move at a faster speed than those around you. Your mind also tends to be quick but can lean towards anxiety. Because you’re high in Vata, it’s likely that you’re highly intuitive, creative, and (when out of balance) flighty and distracted.

Sometimes you might struggle with overwhelm, insomnia, dry skin, constipation, and gas. Remember that you have the potential to think outside the box and bring endless true enthusiasm to all your endeavors. If you stay grounded, you can make your wildest dreams a reality.

Follow our recommendations below to keep all your energy flowing in the right direction.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Protocols are below and in your inbox.

Ahara (food)

You will thrive eating warm, cooked, heavier foods that are well-spiced without being crazy spicy.

  • Examples: Almonds, avocado, basmati rice, beets, carrots, eggs, ghee, mung beans, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, whole milk, winter squash

  • Avoid: too many cold raw foods, like salads and smoothies. This will help you stay grounded and keep your digestion running smoothly, too.

Leah doing trikonasana or triangle pose.

Asana (yoga poses)

You’ll benefit from a grounding practice that moves at an organized and slow to moderate pace. No sudden movements, please! Emphasize poses that strengthen the legs and pelvic floor.

Surya Namaskar (sun salutes)

Trikonasana (triangle pose)

Virabhadrasana I (warrior pose I)

Paschimottanasana (seated forward bend)

Savasana (corpse pose)

Herbs

Herbs and spices that help warm you up, keep your digestion strong and support a resilient nervous system are best. Try adding them to your meals or making a tea to start. And keep your eyes on your inbox for recipes featuring these ingredients

  • Ashwagandha

  • Cumin

  • Fennel

  • Ginger

  • Lavender

Dinacharya (daily schedule)

Keep a good routine. Wake up and go to bed at about the same time each day. Eat your meals on a regular schedule, and do not skip meals. Give yourself no more than an hour window for these things. Don’t worry, you won’t lose all your freedom by doing this. In fact, you might find a regular schedule helps you feel more free.

Moksha

Your freedom lies in structure.
